Footprints in the sand

I once dreamed and behold
I was walking along the beach at low tide.
I wasn't alone there,
for the Lord also walked at my side.

We walked through life together,
and left in the sand,
a trail of steps; two by two,
the Lord walked at my hand.

I stopped and looked behind me,
and saw my life's journey,
in times of happiness and joy,
of deep sorrow and hope.

But when I looked closely at the track,
I saw all along the track,
where it was most difficult,
only a few steps away.

I then said: Lord, why then?
Just when I needed you,
just when I couldn't see a way out myself,
on the hardest part of my path..?

Then the Lord looked at me with love,
and answered my questions;
My dear child, when times were hard,
then I carried you....
